Founded in 1997 in Osaka, Samurai is one of the most appreciated denim labels in the world. The name was inspired by the duel of 1612 between Sasaki Kojiro and Miyamoto Musashi, the two swordsmen were bitter rivals at the time.  The duel began with both men on guard as a show of respect for the other’s skill with their own style and technique. In the end, though, there could be only one winner. Musashi had provoked Kojirō to make the first attack. Miyamoto quickly countered and succeeded in breaking Kojirō’s left ribs and puncturing his lungs, eventually killing him.  With such history behind, Samurai Jeans could never go wrong and built a history of its own in the denim world.

SAMURAI X OLD BLUE "KISOUMA" 21 OZ SLIM STRAIGHT DENIM JEANS

Regular price €415,00

Tax included. Shipping calculated at checkout.

Hailing from Japan, Samurai was founded in Osaka in 1997 by Toru Nogami (Nogami-san), one of the most renowned personas in the denim world. They’re easily among the most notable denim labels in the world. This is the first-ever collaboration we’ve ever done with a fellow denim brand. Being a denim-head in the early 2000s, we just can’t help but be inspired with all the qualities and particularities Samurai have to offer in the denim industry. One way or another, they assisted us in shaping who we are and what we aim for.

Old Blue decided to use Samurai’s original 21 ounces / sq. yard ‘Cho-Kiwami’ heavy-weight selvedge denim. Heavy ounces denim but constructed with extra-long staple cotton composition (40% Pima cotton, 60% Egyptian cotton). The other heavy consideration why we hand-picked the denim fabric is also because we’d combine it with our own signature 21/23 Oz Japanese Heavy-Weight denim (you often hear it referred as the ‘Beast’). We utilized our 21/23 Oz ‘Beast’ denim fabric for the right back pocket and coin pocket part of the denim build. The denim itself was built using Samurai’s signature 710 Cut. A denim pattern that has a nice and clean slim straight fit as its main offering.

This special OBXSAM denim dungaree surely has lots and lots of favorable details that you can expect from both of us. Specially designed (and exclusively made for this article only) arcuate stitch, special collaboration sheepskin leather patch, special OBXSAM inner woven label, specially made denim flasher (with 2 artworks), are just to name a few. We also utilized both of our signature trims & hardwares and combined ‘em shoulder-to-shoulder; the Oldblue’s Black Tab & Samurai’s Indigo Tab, Oldblue’s copper plated Scovill buttons & Samurai’s Gold Pine buttons, and the Oldblue’s copper Scovill rivets & Samurai’s signature copper rivets.

It’d take other multiple paragraphs to describe and list all the specialties on this ‘Kisouma Selvedge’ limited edition denim. All in all, this denim is best described as the result of a joint-work, joint-mind, and joint-effort between two brands which are just so sincerely passionate about quality denim and everything it comes with. It’s no surprise at all when we work together, the output will be something closely correlated with admirable quality jeans, made with flabbergasting selvedge denim fabric, constructed with redoubtable technique and experience, and filled with so many discreet and thoughtful details.

SHANGRI-LA HERITAGE "BIVACCO" BLACK WESTERN DOWN JACKET

Regular price €895,00
/
Tax included. Shipping calculated at checkout.

Inspired by 1960s cowboy jackets and reimagined with a distinctive Italian flair, the "Bivacco" Western Down Jacket embodies an authentic creation crafted from recycled materials. It is made from 80% recycled goose down and 20% feather sourced from Tuscany, Italy. The jacket features a classic western yoke, meticulously constructed from Front Quarter Pull-up Horsehide by Charles F. Stead, one of the UK's oldest tanneries, established in the 1890s in Leeds.

The outer layer is composed of 100% recycled Ecopath® polyester, originating from Prato, Italy, which is both waterproof and breathable. Combined with responsibly-sourced recycled goose down, the "Bivacco" jacket ensures exceptional warmth and protection, even in the harshest wet and cold conditions.

The recycled goose down from Tuscany is certified by the Global Recycle Standard (GRS), which verifies the recycled content and guarantees responsible social, environmental, and chemical practices during production. Additionally, the down is traceable and certified under the Responsible Down Standard (RDS), and processed in Bluesign®-approved facilities.

The recycled Ecopath® polyester from Prato is produced using discarded knitwear, clothing remnants, and fabric clippings. These are sorted by color, cut into small pieces, and then processed through an advanced ecological recycling method that regenerates the fibers. The fabric retains its natural coloration, with dyeing performed using environmentally friendly methods.

Charles F. Stead’s Front Quarter Pull-up Horsehide is crafted from selected European full-grain horse hides, tanned using traditional techniques and finished with a blend of classic pull-up waxes. This process results in a pure-aniline leather with a rich, distinctive character.

Attention to detail defines this handcrafted piece, made in Italy. Any imperfections or variations in color, texture, or grain are not flaws but unique features of an artisanal, high-quality product.

Each jacket is a one-of-a-kind creation, delivered in a premium organic cotton bag, adorned with a Havana rope tie and a screen-printed logo. Free worldwide shipping is included with every purchase.

Inspired by 1930s Grizzly jackets and updated with an Italian twist, the "Varenne" Grizzly Jacket is a true statement piece made from full-grain horsehide sourced from Vicenza, Italy. It features a Pied de Poule wool lining, along with panels and a collar crafted from Merino shearling sheepskin from Tuscany.

The original Grizzly jacket was designed with insulation affixed to the exterior, allowing the wearer greater range of motion and layering options in cold weather. Known for its toughness, the Grizzly jacket is as rugged as the wilderness where grizzlies roam.

The full-grain horsehide used in the Varenne jacket is a first-grade material, rich in character and depth. With a thickness of approximately 1.1 mm, this horsehide ages beautifully, developing natural fades, creases, and a distinctive patina over time. Each hide is unique, with slight variations in texture, grain, and color, further enhancing its authenticity.

The Merino shearling sheepskin serves as an ideal insulator, providing warmth while wicking away moisture when the body generates heat. The soft wool lining ensures comfort, even in the coldest conditions.

The jacket also features Talon® antique brass zippers, complete with engraved markings, adding to its vintage aesthetic.

Carefully handcrafted in Italy, the Varenne Grizzly Jacket is designed with bikers, rockers, and gentlemen in mind, offering both style and durability. Its name is a tribute to "Varenne," the legendary Italian racehorse, known as the best racer of all time.

These are 15.0oz selvedge jeans featuring "Ai Shibu dyed" treatment. Ai-shibu dyeing is an intricate and time-intensive technique, involving initial dyeing with real indigo to achieve a vibrant blue hue, followed by layering with persimmon tannin. The indigo dyeing results in a deeper color compared to regular methods, with the persimmon tannin intensifying in hue with use, thanks to tannin's property of undergoing condensation polymerization over time.

Persimmon juice, also recognized for its high antibacterial and deodorizing properties, has been historically used in Chinese herbal medicine. Japanese culture, with its reverence for the changing seasons and the ephemeral beauty of nature, finds expression in the colors achieved through indigo dyeing. These hues, passed down through generations, are known as "Japanese colors," possessing a profound and captivating allure that resonates deeply with admirers. The silhouette of these jeans is a regular straight fit.

The "Billiken" collection by Studio D'Artisan honors a beloved and iconic figure deeply rooted in Osaka's culture. This figure represents far more than just a symbol; it embodies good fortune, prosperity, and positive outcomes in various aspects of life. Known for bringing success in business, academic achievements, and matters of the heart, this deity holds a special place in the hearts of locals. Visitors often partake in the tradition of gently rubbing the soles of its feet, believing this act will help their wishes come true.

Interestingly, this figure, now so closely associated with Osaka, actually originated in the United States around 1908. It was created by Florence Pretz, an American artist, who envisioned it as a whimsical embodiment of happiness and luck. Despite its American beginnings, the figure quickly made its way to Japan and became deeply enshrined in Osaka’s cultural identity.

At the base of the statue is an inscription: "The God of things as they ought to be." This phrase reflects the belief that the deity governs the ideal form of life, ensuring that everything will eventually align as it should. The Japanese translation reinforces this notion, portraying it as a guiding force that brings circumstances to their rightful and harmonious state.

Over time, this deity has become far more than just a figure of good fortune. It is now a cherished part of Osaka’s identity, symbolizing the city’s unique spirit—a blend of tradition, optimism, and resilience. Studio D'Artisan’s collection embraces this legacy, offering more than just artistic inspiration. It celebrates the figure as a testament to Osaka’s enduring charm and cultural heritage.

For visitors and locals alike, the figure serves as a comforting presence, a symbol of hope, and a reminder that some things transcend time and place. Through this collection, Studio D'Artisan ensures that this beloved cultural icon continues to inspire and bring good fortune to all who encounter it.

Introducing "Billiken-san," the symbolic deity of Osaka. This project is a collaboration between the Osaka-based brand "D'Artisan" and the iconic Billiken-san.

After World War II, American soldiers stationed at the Yokosuka US military base in Japan ordered embroidered souvenirs with oriental patterns, unit emblems, and base insignias from a local tailor shop. This practice is believed to have given rise to the "Sukajan" jacket.

The front of the jacket features a "NEW WORLD" tourism design with Billiken-san as the centerpiece, capturing the lively streets of Osaka along with its famous delicacies like takoyaki and kushikatsu. The back showcases a detailed OSAKA MAP, highlighting beloved symbols of the city such as Billiken, manzai comedy, and the spirited obachan (aunties).

This denim jacket represents the classic 1st type style, crafted from the renowned 900 series 14oz right twill selvedge denim, famously known as G3 denim. G3 denim is woven using Japan's historic G3 power loom, a legendary piece of machinery with a legacy spanning over half a century. The fabric is meticulously woven through a technique called "darashi weaving," which involves manual adjustments to capture the distinctive unevenness and ruggedness characteristic of traditional workwear. By loosening the warp threads' tension, the fabric attains a rugged aesthetic reminiscent of vintage wear.

Drawing inspiration from the timeless 1st type denim jacket, Studio D'Artisan designed a silhouette that balances authenticity with modern wearability. This jacket features faithful reproductions of vintage details, ensuring a timeless appeal. Crafted to withstand the test of time, it pairs seamlessly with jeans, destined to become a wardrobe staple for years to come.

Marking Studio D'artisan's 45th Anniversary, the "Triple Selvedge" denim stands as a symbol of the brand's ongoing creativity and mastery in denim craftsmanship. These jeans, known for their raw, selvedge ID lines running throughout, are an impressive feat, crafted with multiple seams. Studio D'artisan has reimagined their original "DO-1" denim model, expertly manipulating the shuttle loom to create vintage denim with nuanced textures and subtle slubs. To minimize shrinkage, the jeans come pre-rinsed and are equipped with a range of unique features, including a buckle-back waist adjuster, durable canvas pocket bags, and a special hair-on hide patch to commemorate the occasion.

Throughout Studio D'Artisan's impressive 45-year legacy, one fabric stands out as the ultimate symbol of tradition and craftsmanship: their signature denim. Renowned for being one of the most difficult fabrics to produce, it highlights the brand's unwavering dedication to the art of denim making.

This special denim captures the essence of selvedge construction, achieved by skillfully narrowing the power loom’s width—a complex process that is rarely undertaken in Japan. By doing so, Studio D'Artisan has set a new benchmark for selvedge denim, encapsulating their rich heritage.

They embarked on the ambitious task of narrowing the loom’s width to an unprecedented 20cm and 38cm, producing the narrowest selvedge denim ever made. This extraordinary feat blends tradition with cutting-edge technology, creating new possibilities for denim design.

The true value of this denim lies in its deep connection to history, craftsmanship, and innovation. The "Triple Selvedge" design was crafted using custom-made panels, inspired by a similar design featured in Studio D'Artisan's 20th anniversary collection, further emphasizing their legacy of pushing the limits of denim construction.

STUDIO D'ARTISAN "SP-084"15OZ 45TH ANNIVERSARY "TOKUSHIMA HINODE-AWA SHOAI" REGULAR STRAIGHT DENIM JEANS

Regular price €680,00

Crafted in limited quantities, these jeans are meticulously hand-dyed by skilled artisans using natural indigo and akane (red madder). The thicker yarn used in the hand-dyeing process results in a distinctive, uneven texture, setting this denim apart from the standard 15oz varieties.

The "Hinode-Awa Shoai" series draws inspiration from Japan’s rich heritage of colors, evoking a sense of warmth, familiarity, and deep comfort. To mark their 45th anniversary, Studio D'Artisan has created denim that embodies the spirit of "Japanese colors," combining indigo and madder red dyes. The natural indigo is applied through the traditional "Awa-Sei Aizome" method, requiring approximately 30 wash cycles to achieve a rich, harmonious shade. This process highlights the living quality of indigo, which deepens and transforms with time and wear.

The weft is dyed with plant-based akane (茜) or red madder, a dye that has been part of Japan’s history for centuries, even appearing on the national flag during the Meiji era. The deep indigo created by the "Awa-Shoai Aizome" method blends seamlessly with the rich red madder, producing a fabric reminiscent of noble attire from Japan’s past.

These straight-leg jeans feature a mid-rise and are finished with the signature Studio D'Artisan touches: custom copper buttons, high-quality pocket bags, and a thick cowhide leather patch. The patch was stitched on after the jeans underwent a "tempi" treatment, a painstaking and costly step that required returning the jeans to the sewing workshop post-wash to ensure the best possible finish.

Like many other SDA models, the Tokushima D1866 runs slightly small. It is recommended to size up from your usual fit, but be sure to consult the size chart for accuracy. The denim is unsanforized but pre-washed, so no further shrinkage will occur.

  • Crafted from 100% cotton, this 15oz unsanforized Japanese selvedge denim is hand-dyed using natural indigo for the warp and akane (red madder) for the weft. It comes in a one-wash version, ensuring no shrinkage.
  • Featuring a regular straight fit with a mid-rise, this denim provides a classic silhouette.
  • The denim has an ultra slubby, hairy texture, created by a low-tension weave.
  • Hand-dyed in Tokushima using traditional methods, the denim showcases a striking red selvedge line.
  • Thoughtfully designed, these jeans include hidden rivet pockets, heavy-duty bar tacks, raised belt loops, and a peek-a-boo selvedge coin pocket.
  • SDA’s custom copper buttons and a 0.3mm cowhide leather patch add refined details to the piece.
  • Pocket bags feature original "45th anniversary" artwork, commemorating the milestone.
  • Limited in quantity, each pair includes a custom 45th Anniversary bandana.

STUDIO D'ARTISAN "SP-085 ISHIKAWADAI" 45TH ANNIVERSARY 13OZ REGULAR STRAIGHT DENIM JEANS

The "Ishikawadai" series is a tribute to vintage craftsmanship, using traditional methods that date back to 1953. At the heart of this creation is a Japanese ring spinning machine from Ishikawa Seisakujo, believed to be the oldest of its kind still in use today. Despite its age, this machine remains invaluable to denim production due to its unique qualities and slower operating speed—about one-third the pace of modern machines.

This slower operation brings distinct advantages. The machine applies minimal stress to the cotton fibers, preserving their natural characteristics. This results in a fabric with a rich, uneven texture reminiscent of hand-spun cotton, something nearly impossible to achieve with today’s computer-controlled machinery. The irregularity in the weave lends the denim an authentic, antique-like appearance, in sharp contrast to the uniformity of modern textiles.

The indigo-dyed warp threads embrace the raw qualities of the cotton, bypassing the usual refinement processes to preserve the fabric's natural texture. The production techniques used are intentionally low-tech, honoring the methods used in 1953 and capturing the essence of vintage denim.

Each garment made from "Ishikawadai" denim transforms with wear, evolving over time much like classic vintage pieces from earlier eras. These jeans aren't just clothing; they are living, evolving records of the craftsmanship and artistry from which they were born, preserving history for future generations.

In terms of fit, the "Ishikawadai" jeans, like many other SDA models, tend to run slightly small in the one-wash version. We recommend sizing up for a comfortable fit, but it’s always best to check the size chart. The jeans are unsanforized but have been one-washed, so no additional shrinkage will occur.

Studio D'Artisan, founded in 1979 by Shigeharu Tagaki, is renowned for reviving the classics under the motto "Reconstruction of Great Old Things." As a member of the Osaka 5 and a pioneer of Japanese denim, the brand takes great pride in recreating French and American workwear with a focus on authenticity and tradition.

  • Crafted from 13oz unsanforized Japanese selvedge denim, these jeans have undergone a one-wash treatment to ensure no additional shrinkage.
  • Made from 100% cotton, the fabric features a slubby, hairy texture that enhances its vintage appeal.
  • With a mid-high rise and a regular straight fit, these jeans offer a classic and comfortable silhouette.
  • The warp is dyed indigo, while the weft is white, giving the denim its traditional appearance.
  • Details include a white selvedge line, hidden rivets in the pockets, and a peek-a-boo selvedge coin pocket.
  • Heavy-duty bar tacks reinforce high-stress areas, and the herringbone-patterned pocket bags add durability and style.
  • Custom SDA copper buttons, raised belt loops, and an Ishikawadai leather patch further elevate the design.
  • A free Ishikawadai Tote Bag is included with each pair.
  • Proudly made in Japan.
