This Henley-neck thermal is made from The Flat Head’s original thermal fabric.
The vertically elongated knit and mesh structure create a soft, highly elastic fabric with an exceptionally comfortable feel when worn. Made from 100% cotton, it offers excellent moisture absorption. The distinctive textured surface helps release absorbed moisture, allowing the garment to maintain a smooth, dry feel over time.

Highly elastic original waffle fabric
The Flat Head’s thermal fabric is extremely popular as winter innerwear.
Its mesh-like knit structure is soft and comfortable, offering excellent breathability and moisture absorption when worn on its own. As an inner layer, the textured surface traps air within its raised pattern, creating an insulating air layer that blocks cold air from entering and provides outstanding warmth.
The knit features a vertically oriented honeycomb structure. It offers exceptional stretch horizontally, similar to a net, while resisting vertical stretching. This design keeps the fabric soft and flexible while reducing stretching at the hem, helping the garment maintain its shape over time.
Three-Needle, One-Removed Stitching
The neckline features The Flat Head’s signature special sewing technique known as “three-needle, one-removed” stitching.
By using No. 20 cotton thread on a soft, highly stretchable thermal fabric, the neckline is reinforced to resist stretching, allowing the garment to be worn comfortably for many years.
Sewing soft, mesh-like thermal fabric—which is even more delicate than standard T-shirt fabric—using thick No. 20 cotton thread is an extremely demanding process. Even stitching it without damaging the fabric requires a high level of craftsmanship.
Flat Seamer Stitching with Minimal Bulk (4-Needle Flat Seam)
To reduce bulk at the seams and minimize stress when worn, this garment is sewn using a flat seamer (4-needle flat seam) that eliminates raised stitching. A vintage 1960s Union Special flat seaming machine is used, known for its excellent compatibility with cotton thread.
By keeping the seams flat, the garment delivers exceptional comfort as a layer worn directly against the skin, ensuring a smooth, irritation-free fit.
Neckline Accent
The row of buttons at the neckline serves as a stylish accent when worn, adding a distinctive design detail.
Even when layered under a shirt or other garments as an inner layer, it creates a different impression from a standard crew neck.
