Inspired by an original 1940s denim jacket, this piece has been thoughtfully reimagined with subtle modern refinements, including the use of selvedge detailing on the collar. It is crafted from the iconic D01 denim, Studio D’Artisan’s pioneering fabric that helped ignite Japan’s vintage denim movement in the 1980s.
In a return to their roots, Studio D’Artisan meticulously studied archived denim garments to faithfully recreate the fabric’s distinctive uneven texture. This character is achieved through a robust no. 6 yarn blend, carefully engineered to mirror the irregularity of true vintage denim. Taking the process even further, the yarns undergo 20 rounds of natural indigo dyeing using the traditional Kasezome (skein-dyeing) technique, carried out by skilled artisans in Tokushima — a region renowned for its indigo heritage.
The jacket features a classic Type I silhouette and is finished with a selvedge cinch-back fastener, a respectful nod to the iconic selvedge denim jackets of the 1930s and 1940s. The result is a piece that balances historical accuracy with Studio D’Artisan’s uncompromising craftsmanship.
