Studio D’Artisan’s D1908 Bengara Selvedge Jeans draw from a time-honored Japanese craft that predates modern denim altogether. The fabric is dyed using Bengara, a traditional iron oxide pigment sourced from iron-rich earth and long valued in Japan for its warm, reddish-brown tone. Historically used in everything from pottery to lacquered objects, Bengara brings a depth of color that feels organic, grounded, and unmistakably old-world.

Cut from 14oz unsanforized selvedge denim, the fabric is dyed through an environmentally conscious process in which iron oxide is blended with water and manually worked into the cloth. This hands-on method produces subtle variations and earthy rust hues that feel alive rather than uniform. Unlike botanical dyes that wash away over time, Bengara is prized for its durability, resisting rapid fading while gradually evolving into a richer, deeper tone with wear.

The D1908 is finished in a relaxed taper for everyday comfort and classic balance.
