SAMURAI JEANS — 15OZ SEIGAIHA WIDE STRAIGHT

A roomy 1940s-inspired silhouette meets Samurai’s distinctive 15oz Seigaiha selvedge denim. Woven from Texas cotton with indigo yarns in both the warp and weft, this fabric combines pronounced slub with a depth of colour that develops gradually through wear. One-washed and made in Japan.

FIT & SIZING

The S3000 draws on Samurai’s S3000VXII wartime-inspired pattern, with a mid-to-high rise, generous thigh and wide straight leg. Minimal taper preserves the relaxed proportions from the hip through to the hem.

This model runs slightly small, with the waist measuring just below the tagged size. We recommend sizing up one from your usual size in most American denim brands to maintain the intended fit. The denim has been one-washed, so minimal further shrinkage is expected when following the care instructions, while the waistband will give slightly with wear.

Check our size chart against a pair of jeans you already wear comfortably. Sizing down may restrict movement and compromise the relaxed silhouette.

SEIGAIHA: BLUE OCEAN WAVES

Named after the traditional Japanese seigaiha wave pattern, this denim takes its inspiration from the repeating arcs seen on textiles and ceramics. The motif represents calm seas and a wish for lasting peace.

Samurai carries this theme into the finishing details. A red-painted “hinode” top button evokes the sunrise over the sea, while the jacquard pocket lining features “shogyo mujo” (諸行無常), a Buddhist expression referring to the impermanence of all things—a fitting detail for denim that continually changes with its wearer.

THE DENIM

The fabric’s character comes from the contrast between its two yarns: a heavily slubbed #5 rope-dyed indigo warp and a finer #8 indigo weft, dyed to a darker shade using a different method.

Initially, the textured warp gives the denim its dominant blue tone and uneven surface. As the yarns fade at different rates, the darker weft becomes more visible, adding depth to the developing fades.

Woven slowly on vintage shuttle looms, the 15oz fabric offers substantial texture in a weight suited to regular wear. Both warp and weft are dyed with indigo.

CONSTRUCTION & DETAILS

Samurai finishes the jeans with hammered copper rivets engraved with サムライ, heavy stitching, raised belt loops and reinforced stress points. The brand’s silver lamé selvedge ID completes the fabric.
