SAMURAI JEANS — 17OZ ZERO+ YEAR OF THE HORSE

Samurai’s limited Year of the Horse edition brings together textured 17oz denim, distinctive saddle-inspired details and the brand’s S210XJ “Saddle Slim” fit. Drawing on the workwear of the American West, this release connects denim’s cowboy heritage with Samurai’s approach to Japanese craftsmanship.

FIT & SIZING

The Saddle Slim silhouette has a medium rise, a slim fit through the leg and a subtle taper towards the hem. It offers a clean profile while retaining the character of a traditional five-pocket jean.

This model runs small. We recommend going up one size from your usual size in most American denim brands, then checking our measurements against a pair you already wear. The unsanforized denim has been one-washed to remove most initial shrinkage. Some additional shrinkage may occur, while the waistband can stretch approximately one inch with regular wear.

THE DENIM

Samurai’s 17oz “Zero+” selvedge denim is woven slowly on vintage shuttle looms using indigo rope-dyed cotton yarns. Pronounced vertical slub and scattered nep give the fabric an irregular, tactile surface, with a deep indigo colour that gradually reveals its texture through wear.

The substantial weight and uneven yarn structure give this denim its distinctive character. Over time, raised areas lose indigo first, developing the strong contrasts and expressive fades associated with Samurai.

YEAR OF THE HORSE DETAILS

The zodiac theme appears in details created specifically for this edition. The pocket bags use horse cloth traditionally placed beneath riding saddles, while a custom goatskin patch bears the character 午, associated with the Horse and the seventh of the twelve Earthly Branches. A dedicated zodiac flasher completes the release.

Samurai’s signature construction includes a five-button “Jin” fly, hammered copper exposed rivets, raised belt loops and yellow contrast stitching. The red and silver lamé selvedge ID, stitched closed, also appears at the coin pocket, while the back pockets feature Samurai’s original stitching.
