At the core of this masterpiece is Studio D’Artisan’s 16oz Extreme Denim—one of the most textured and expressive fabrics we’ve seen at Redcast. The warp threads are dyed with natural kakishibu (persimmon tannin) using the traditional kasezome method, a labor-intensive process that gives the denim its rich earth-toned hue and tonal complexity. The No. 6 slub and nep yarns in the warp, combined with No. 5 super-slub weft yarns, create an extraordinary texture that is both tactile and visually arresting. Woven with force and precision on vintage shuttle looms, this denim carries an intense irregularity that sets it far apart from ordinary selvedge.

But the innovation doesn’t stop at the fabric. Every detail of the Kakishibu Jeans is a nod to Studio D’Artisan’s uncompromising craftsmanship. From heavy-duty bar tacks and hidden rivets to the herringbone pocket bags and raised belt loops, no component is overlooked. The jeans are finished with custom copper buttons, a peek-a-boo selvedge coin pocket, and a robust cowhide leather patch—stitched after a specialized tempi wash to preserve its unique character. Perhaps most striking is the selvedge ID: a beautifully woven persimmon leaf sashiko pattern, a subtle tribute to the dyeing tradition that gives these jeans their name.

Fit Notes: Unlike many SDA models that tend to run small, the Kakishibu Jeans fit true to size. Although made from unsanforized denim, the jeans have undergone a one-wash treatment to eliminate shrinkage. We still recommend reviewing the size chart to find your ideal fit.
